What do you enjoy most about your mortgage marketing strategy?
What gets you the most excited? Is it helping people secure financing for their dream home? Is it helping people restructure debt? Is it helping credit challenged people get financed?
Whatever your reason I'm pretty sure what you don't enjoy most about your strategy...marketing to Realtors. Do you feel ambivalent? Are you reluctant or do you feel it's a necessary evil? Regardless, it doesn't have to be that way.
You can get excited about marketing and a strategy that produces results. Actually, the more you are enthusiastic, the better results you experience. And although there isn't a step-by-step program for getting excited, there are ways of helping it.
Start with Vision
Most mortgage marketing strategies fail before they begin. There's a difference between tactics and strategies. Tactics win battles and strategies win wars. A simple exercise is to pretend you've just retired after many years of working successfully with Realtors and were being interviewed by a leading trade magazine. How would you describe your success? How would you explain how you got started with Realtors? Describe it in vivid detail.
Set Marketing Goals
Marketing goals are milestones. They act like markers along your journey. Marketing goals are specific, measurable and action-oriented. Don't just write you want more Realtors, instead describe how many you need, where you'll find each one and how you'll stay top-of-mind. Create the perfect mortgage marketing strategy
Feedback is Opportunity
Failure is only failure when you stop trying. What you perceive as failure is really feedback. Feedback helps you to improve your performance. If you're not seeking feedback you're missing the opportunity to improve the level of your service.
Learn the Marketing Game
You have to be as good at marketing as you are at what you do. And if you're not good now, you can become good. Marketing has structure. It has rules you can learn to follow. And the more you learn, the better you understand it.
As people, we tend to enjoy most what we understand. It's why your answer to my first question about what you enjoy most about your business wasn't marketing. But when you learn about marketing and get better at it, it's fun...even exhilarating.
There's a euphoria members of the Agent Magnet Marketing Center feel when they've successfully generated a flood of business because they implemented a mortgage marketing strategy that works.
Overcome Mental Barriers
Up until 1954 no one believed anyone could run a mile under 4 minutes. And it still may be true today if the man who did it had given up. Prior to Roger Bannister running the first sub-four minute mile he had almost quit running because of his disappointing performance at the 1952 Olympics.
Roger fell short of high expectations at the Olympics and spent two months afterward deliberating if he should give up running. But instead of quitting, and going down in the history books as a failure, he set a new goal. The goal of running the mile under four minutes became his vision.
His story is inspiration when you feel knocked down, when you're frustrated from your marketing efforts, or when you don't see progress. Marketing to real estate agents is no easy task. If it were, there would be fewer loan officers becoming camp counselors right now.
It's not always about you getting excited over a mortgage marketing strategy as it is doing the things mentioned here. When you do the things mentioned, your marketing improves and you become genuinely excited.
